As the resident hippie, I have noticed that I spend a lot of energy thinking about the greener concerns at events. At outdoor concerts, I've found myself picking up other people's trash. I'm often the first to enforce recycling at a theatre company. I've also been one to encourage the use of reusable water bottles at events such as this.
As an artist from the Pacific Northwest, I'm aware that I'm not alone in my concerns and that many other like-minded folks may be interested in finding new ways to lessen our impact while we enjoy our campsites! I've got a few ideas already and would be interested in hearing some others!
I've heard that there will likely be a lot of battery-operated props and weapons at site. This is particular interest to me as regular household batteries should --ideally-- be disposed of through a household battery collection program and not put in the landfills as we do regular trash. www.ehso.com/ehshome/batteries.php Batteries are really unhealthy for our living spaces!
I know it might take a wee bit of dedication, but I think if we had a battery disposal bucket on site (in the Tavern?) during a Beyond the Aether event, then a staff person (probably me) could safely dispose of the batteries afterwords.
Also, Millersylvania State Park no longer does any recycling! Last event, The magnificent Rian (Runt) helped out by taking home all the aluminum cans, but I would ideally like to pack out the other recyclables (class, tin, etc) as well. Unfortunately, having no vehicle of my own makes this difficult.
I would appreciate any and all thoughts on this matter!
